In this post we are going to learn why it is crucially important to unlock your imagination and day dream – a lot. Contrary to what we were told at school, day dreaming is actually good for us.
In Chapter 3 of my best selling book ‘The 90 Second Life Coach’, I write about why having the ability to day dream is fundamental starting point for success in life. I’ve made this animated video based of the third chapter of the book.
Let’s first enjoy the video.
So as an added bonus, here is the third chapter of ‘The 90 Second Life Coach’ in its entirety – the premise of the book that each chapter is bite sized and designed to be read in about 90 seconds. I’ve put links to the book and the extended edition of the course below this transcript.
Chapter 3: Daydream – a lot
Probably much like myself you were told at school to ‘pay attention’ and ‘stop daydreaming’. I’ve often wondered why daydreaming has earned such a bad reputation. Is it really something so negative?
As I progressed through my learning journey over the years, I found a new name for daydreaming; it’s called ‘imagineering’ or ‘visualising’.
I think not only is it healthy but it’s in fact vital to explore your own imagination, where no one, no institution, no boss can tell you what you are allowed or not allowed to think – and just dream about what you want your life to be like.
It’s here in your imagination (and your subconscious) where you can be completely free to think whatever you want to without anybody judging you or telling you ‘no’, or even worse, having to conform to what society expects you to be.
Once you can see in your imagination what you truly want, then you can start taking the steps to achieve it.
Essentially this means plotting out where you currently are, compared to where you want to be. We’ll go into more detail in the later chapters about the tasks that you’ll have to do and the obstacles that you’ll have to overcome – Well you didn’t expect it to be easy, did you? – but for now, daydream and daydream a lot. These are the images you will be following.
Without these images, you will start to conform to what society expects you to be. Do you want to live out society’s expectations or do you want to attain your higher self and fulfil your own dreams?
Of course you understand the difference between ‘daydreaming’ and ‘wishing your life away’. They are, after all, two completely different activities. ‘Wishing your life away’ is a waste of time and is about trying to escape your problems, whereas ‘daydreaming’ is about seeing what you want. The latter isn’t about ‘escaping’, but allows you to ‘explore’ and ‘achieve’.
And daydreaming isn’t the end of the journey, but only the starting point, that place where you set your destination. Without this destination in mind, your life will be aimless wandering, going round in circles. With no goal in sight, you may work hard and put in a lot of effort, but ultimately you’ll end up going nowhere. In the following chapters I’ll give you the exact tools to get to that destination but for now, concentrate on the dreaming.
Dream about where it is you want to get to, and the rest will fall into place.
Okay hope you enjoyed that sample, while you’re here do have a look around. I’ve put this handy table below to show you how you can learn more about the books and courses I have developed to help you make your current life into the dream life that you’ve always dreamt about.
